A herbal tea blend is a tea that combines more than one herb in a single mix. At HerbaltoX, this blend is made up of 13 herbs and seeds and comes in single-use sachets. You can see each one individually below.
The difference between a herbal tea blend and a single-herb tea
With a single-herb tea, you brew one leaf or flower. In a blend, the herbs are combined in set proportions beforehand, so you don't need to buy and weigh them separately. At HerbaltoX, every sachet has the same measure: 5.5 grams.
The blend contains only herbs and seeds. Each sachet also has exactly the same amount. There is no added sugar, artificial sweetener, preservative, coloring or flavoring; the sweetness comes from the stevia leaf. The product is also vegan and contains no animal-derived ingredients.
13 herbs and seeds, one by one
In the table below, you can see which part of each ingredient is used and what flavor it adds to the tea. For more detailed cards, check out the Ingredients page.
Herb | Part used | Role in the tea |
|---|---|---|
Green tea | Leaf | A fresh, lightly grassy flavor; naturally contains caffeine |
Mate | Leaf | A leaf tea loved in South America; it also contains caffeine |
Hibiscus | Flower | Gives it its red color and a slightly tart taste |
Ginger | Root | Leaves a mildly spicy, warming taste |
Fennel | Seed | A sweetish aroma similar to anise |
Ceylon cinnamon | Bark | Milder and sweeter than ordinary cinnamon |
Stevia | Leaf | This is where the tea's sweetness comes from |
Lime | Fruit | A slightly tart, fresh lime aroma |
Chia | Seed | Takes on a light gel-like consistency when left in water |
Karnıyarık herb | Seed | Seed husk, also known as psyllium; it absorbs water and swells |
Konjac | Tuber | A tuber used in Asian cuisine, known as glucomannan |
Spirulina | Microalgae | Dark green in color; darkens the color of the tea |
Senna | Plant | A plant whose leaves are traditionally used |
Tea bags or a blend?
Single-herb tea bags are easy to prepare, but they usually contain just one herb. If you want to make your own blend, you need to buy thirteen separate packs, then weigh, mix, and strain them. A ready-made blend does this work for you: you open the sachet and add hot water. A detailed comparison table is included on the Why HerbaltoX page.
What's not in the blend
When choosing a blend, it helps to look not only at what's in it but also at what isn't. The HerbaltoX label does not contain the following:
Added sugar
Artificial sweeteners
Preservatives
Coloring agents
Flavorings
Animal-derived ingredients
How does it taste?
Each sachet is 5.5 grams, so there's no need to measure; just empty it into a cup and add hot water.
In the cup, you first notice a light tartness from the hibiscus. Then comes the mild spiciness of the ginger and the anise aroma of the fennel. Since no sugar is added, the taste is more refreshing than sweet.
About caffeine
Green tea and mate naturally contain caffeine, though only a small amount. If you are sensitive to caffeine, you may want to have your evening cup a little earlier.
More about these herbs
We have covered some of the herbs in the blend one by one on our blog. For cinnamon, see What is cinnamon tea good for; for ginger, see the ginger tea article; for fennel, the fennel tea article; and for hibiscus, the hibiscus tea article.
If you would like to try the blend as a box, the HerbaltoX Detox Mixed Herbal Tea page offers 1-, 3- and 6-month packs.
Preparation
Open the sachet, add it to about 200 ml of hot but not boiling water, and let it steep for 3–5 minutes. Drink one cup in the morning and one in the evening. Since the ground herbs settle at the bottom, stirring from time to time keeps the taste balanced.
